This programme will provide insight beyond the artworks that are in the gallery to focus on the space itself and consider how its design influences the way we encounter and experience it and the artworks. While traversing concepts of porosity, proximity, negative space, boundaries, and more, Rin and Field will discuss the main pillars of their design practice and how they have manifested in various projects, particularly in relation to No Patents on Ideas and past collaborations with other artists. The session will end off with a brief exhibition walkthrough to allow audiences to view and experience what was shared earlier in-situ, as well as a short Q&A.

From catchy chart toppers to classic jazz hits, popular songs capture the spirit of the ages and unite us all in feeling and chorus. Yee I-Lann expresses this in Hello from the Outside, a “karaoke mat” woven with lyrics sampled from songs selected by the weavers of Omadal Island and Keningau, Sabah. The songs are the weavers’ favourite during karaoke sessions, but perhaps we may find the lyrics meaningful too. Although the lines may remind us of our own individual memories that we associate with them, they also form a sort of shared globalised cultural space.

Come belt out the anthems of our times at the Engine Room of Singapore Art Museum and connect with kindred spirits with music!
