TOURS & TALKS PUBLIC PROGRAMME
In an increasingly globalised world fraught with issues of minority representation and its social complexities, how do artists engage with such themes in their work?
Join SAM curator Louis Ho as he discusses the aesthetic and conceptual ways that minority identity is expressed in contemporary art at the Signature Art Prize 2018 exhibition.
Works that will be covered on this tour include those by the New Zealand collective, Mata Aho, which is evocative of the members’ Maori heritage; by the Filipino-Australian duo, Club Ate, highlighting their queer and biracial orientations; and Japanese artist, Yuichiro Tamura, which explores the idea of bodybuilding and the image of the ideal male body, based on the life of writer Yukio Mishima.
The tour will end with a panel discussion with distinguished speakers, who will expand on themes related to minority identities, as explored through the Signature Art Prize 2018 artworks.
