Discover the deep cultural history and lesser-known stories of the Southern Islands with Fawzi Nasir, who was born and grew up on Lazarus and St. John’s Islands. A native of the Southern Islands, Fawzi was one of the natives who experienced the resettlement of islanders to the mainland.
The boat tour will cover offshore islands and landmarks along a lesser travelled path, namely the Buran Channel that houses Buran Darat, an isle that was reclaimed to become the Sentosa Cove we know today. The tour will pass through landmarks such as Kusu Island, St John’s Island and Sister’s Island, and Raffles Lighthouse.
This programme is held in conjunction with the exhibition Simryn Gill and Charles Lim Yi Yong: The Sea is a Field, in which the artists share stories of everyday crossings, migrations, and borders that connect to the complex cultural and political history of Malaysia, Indonesia, and Singapore.
