In this session, Rehab Hazgui elaborated on her multi-faceted practice as a modular synthesis performer and composer. Rehab’s artistic interests are located at the cross-section of art, science and technology, resulting in a range of biotechnological creations. Philosophical questions concerning the technological manipulation of living matter are central to Rehab's investigations. Rehab will present insights into her past projects, including the critically acclaimed SEA-MOSS TREE (2015) and Mirath: Music (2019), a regional touring sound-exhibition about the cultural heritage music in North and Northeast Africa and West Asia.
Rehab's sharing was followed by a deep listening session of some of Rehab’s soundscapes, as well as a conversation with SAM Curator, Duncan Bass.
This programme was hosted as part of Residency Thursday, an ongoing series of activations and presentations led by SAM residents.
