Arpita AKHANDA

Artist Residency || 01 Apr to 30 Jun 2026

Arpita Akhanda works across paper weaving, photography, performance, installation, drawing and video to conceptualise the body as a memory collector. Drawing from familial trauma and history following the partition of India, Arpita’s artistic practice grapples with the tempestuous terrains of memory and migration, exploring ideas of identity, roots and the constant search for belonging that begets the lost path of remembrance. In doing so, she narrates the sense of loss the body inherits from a bygone trauma.

While in residence, Arpita will continue building her ongoing research on the multifaceted nature of water bodies and their interplay with human memory and identity. Arpita seeks to investigate how Singapore’s waterways embody historical and cultural narratives, enriching her exploration of water as a site of migration, trade, settlement and collective memory
