Community & Education Residency || 01 Sep to 30 Nov 2025
Jim Jasper Lumbera and Joey Alexis Singh have been working collaboratively since 2020. The duo explores themes of memory, identity and the intersection of traditional and contemporary media spanning film, photography, new media art and expanded cinema. Guided by the signaling tradition underlying the Southeast Asian archipelago and the non-linear, non-repetitive and non-narrative perception of time, Jim and Joey expand upon ideas around humanity in the absence of the body and spirituality.
While in residence, Jim and Joey will continue their research on the relationship of sound with expanded cinema, particularly building upon José Maceda’s sound archive and field notes from 1950’s Philippines. Their research will also extend to sound of drones and microtones found in spiritual practices and religious ceremonies in Singapore.
