EX-SITU: Art Spaces Residency || 01 Jun to 31 Aug 2022
Unfolding through visual, narrative, and performance, ila’s artistic practice revolves around urgencies for repair, care, and mutual support. Negotiating alternative nodes of experience, her works reconfigure and merge speculative fiction with factual histories, informal archives and collective experiences, conceiving them as sites for empathy and connectivity.
ila has been thinking through and finding ways to address unhealthy cultures of production and lack of support structures for independent artists, practitioners and artworkers through participation, interventions and gatherings since 2019.
For this residency, ila is continuing her research on care, rest and repair. She is developing a set of toolkits responding to Citrus Practices' Library of Care and imagining foundational and sustainable ways in which collective self-care can be practiced.
