Sian-Jie YE

Artist Residency || 01 Jun to 31 Aug 2025

Ye Sian-Jie works across performance, installation and lens-based media to challenge conventional narratives. Guided by the principle of “as is an interruption, creating moments for reflection,” his works are invitations to pause and reconsider our perceptions, perspectives and the relation to daily norms. These interventions highlight overlooked aspects of the everyday, revealing tensions between efficiency, control and personal agency in contemporary urban life.

While in residence, Sian-Jie will explore Singapore’s technological and ecological landscapes, examining how efficiency-driven infrastructures shape communal experiences. Through ethnographic engagement, participatory methods, and documentation, his research will focus of three key areas: the lived histories of shophouse residents as sites of cultural continuity and adaption, the metaphor of migratory birds as a lens to explore movement and global connectivity, and the integration of LIDAR as surveillance technologies in urban forestry managements. With the investigations, Sian-jia aims to uncover the intersections of technology, society, and nature to offer new perspectives on how human experiences are mediated by urban infrastructures, surveillance, and ecological systems.
