Artist Residency || 01 Oct 2021 to 31 Mar 2022
Aki plans to use their time in residence to debunk normative understandings of intimacy. They intend to do this by conducting research through focus groups, to reflect on the environments and societal expectations that have influenced strategies in approaching intimacy. Aki is a trans-disciplinary artist who thinks and works through text, drawing, printed matter and sculpture. They are invested in how forms, materialities and objects encounter one another in both concrete and metaphorical terms. This feeds into carefully arranged installations, exploring interrelations and resonance, and how personalities are revealed, surfacing paradoxes and unexpected detail. They see this process as a tool to reflect on their support systems; to locate strength, shifts and imbalances in exchange.
