Singapore Maritime Gallery & around Marina South Pier
20th September 5:30 – 6:30 PM
21st September 5:30 – 6:30 PM
Registration: 5:00 PM, Singapore Maritime Gallery
Flux is a site-specific performance by Shahrzad Malekian and Ida Uvaas (Tenthaus Art Collective) set in and around the Singapore Maritime Gallery. Devised alongside and performed by students from Lasalle College of the Arts, Flux responds to Singapore’s port identity – examining it in relation to the temporal experience of the present and gallery’s proposition of the future as here, now and within us.
Drawing upon the connection between the performers’ body and memory with the city’s imagination and history, the performers explore time – as it is fluid and fragmented – to challenge the idea of a singular, shared temporal moment between one another. Flux points to Singapore’s own relationship with land reclamation, urbanity and the seas which surround us.
Flux is an adaptation of STIM, which first premiered in 2023, centered around a river in Oslo. Performing around the bodies of water that connect all the way from Singapore to Norway, the performers will explore the cultural and environmental context of Singapore embedded within memory as a living landscape.
