Darkness and Revolutions - The Power of Invisibility by Bras Basah Open and Friends
From Plato to Harry Potter, the power of invisibility has inspired countless provocative thought experiments. In an en-lightened, ocularcentric world, being unseen promises a space of reprieve from the gaze of society and state. Political ideas and movements, too, often flourish in the veil of darkness. Underground networks played a key role in the anticolonial struggle in Singapore and elsewhere.
Darkness & Revolution is an interactive session that explores the clandestine as a space of creative expression. When we are constantly surveilled and quantified, can we ever truly escape the demands of being perceived? How does the experience of being seen shape our conception of ourselves?
This event was presented by BBO in collaboration with Elias König and Paul Yee.
